What product photography costs in India
In India, studio product photography is commonly quoted at ₹300–₹800 per white-background image and ₹1,500–₹5,000 or more per styled lifestyle image, with day rates of ₹15,000–₹50,000 in metros (Zeands, July 2026).

Photography is usually the first real marketing cost a small seller meets, and it is priced in a way that punishes the sellers who need it most. A per-image rate is fine for a brand that shoots a fixed range once a season. It does not work for a boutique adding new designs every week, where a garment may sell twelve units before it is replaced.
The figures here are third-party market rates, not a quote. Quoted ranges vary widely with city and complexity: a separate 2026 guide puts basic white-background work as low as ₹150 per image at the entry level and as high as ₹2,000 (TeamTSB, 2026). Ask what is included — retouching, colour correction and usage rights are often extra.
The honest comparison is not studio versus nothing. It is studio, do-it-yourself on a phone with a lightbox, or a real phone photo restaged by software. Each has a place; the table below puts numbers on them.
What a 200-image catalogue costs, three ways
Illustrative totals from one 2026 cost guide (Zeands, July 2026). Your quotes will differ.
- Studio photographer
- ₹60,000–₹1,60,000 or more for 200 finished images, at ₹300–₹800 per white-background image. Lifestyle and model work is priced separately at ₹1,500–₹5,000+ per image.
- Do it yourself
- A phone plus a lightbox of roughly ₹3,000, then your time. Consistency across 200 images is the hard part, not the equipment.
- Restaged by software
- ₹5,000–₹25,000 for the same catalogue, at ₹10–₹150 per finished output once discarded generations are counted.
- Day rate
- ₹15,000–₹50,000 per day in metro cities, typically covering 20–60 products depending on styling.
- Usually included
- Lighting, colour accuracy and basic retouching. Advanced retouching, models, stylists and usage rights are commonly extra.

Questions sellers ask
How much does product photography cost per image in India?
Published 2026 rates put white-background catalogue shots at roughly ₹300–₹800 per image and styled lifestyle images at ₹1,500–₹5,000 or more (Zeands, July 2026). Entry-level studios in smaller cities quote lower, sometimes from ₹150 (TeamTSB, 2026). Retouching and usage rights are often charged separately.
What is a photographer's day rate for product shoots?
In metro cities a day rate of ₹15,000–₹50,000 is common (Zeands, July 2026). How many products that covers depends on styling: plain white-background work moves faster than model or lifestyle shots, so agree a product count, not just a day, before booking.
Is DIY product photography good enough for marketplaces?
It can be, if you control light and background. A phone, a window and a plain backdrop meet Amazon and Flipkart rules when the image is sharp, the background is truly white and the product fills the frame. The difficulty is consistency across a whole catalogue, not any single image.
Is AI product photography cheaper than a studio?
Per finished image, published estimates are ₹10–₹150 once wasted generations are counted, against ₹300–₹800 for a studio white-background shot (Zeands, July 2026). The trade is that you still need one accurate photo of the real product, and you must check every output against it.
What should I ask a product photographer before booking?
Four things: the per-image or per-day rate and what count it covers; whether retouching and colour correction are included; who owns the images and where you may use them; and the turnaround. Ask for a sample edited to marketplace specs so you can see the background and fill.
